Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between instructional leadership practices
and grade eight students’ regional examination results in lay Armachiho woreda. The design of the
study was co relational design. In the study thirteen primary schools were included. The number of
population of the study was 332.Sample teachers were selected by using simple random sampling
(lottery method) and all students (3475) were including in the study. The sample size of the study
was 181.Data was collected by using questionnaire and document analysis. Data was analyzed by
using mean, standard deviation, one sample t-test ,and regression. The findings of the study are;
instructional leadership was practiced sometimes by school principals and the performance level of
students’ academic achievement was fair. In addition the finding indicates that instructional
leadership has positive impact on students’ academic achievement. Based on the research findings
the researcher recommended that, Zone Education office make success celebration ceremony twice
a year and provided reward and recognition for teachers and principals. Woreda education office
should be proactive in evaluating, and monitoring and taking appropriate measure about the
practices of instructional leadership in primary schools. School principal for first and for most need
to be instructional leader.
