Abstract:
The objective of this study was to assess the types, causes and sources of conflict and conflict
handling mechanisms in West Gojjam zone Finote Damot Technique College. To achieve the
objective of the study descriptive research design was employed. The researcher in selected 64
(53%) of the population as respondents 43 teachers, 18 administration workers and 3 educational
leaders in the college were primary source of data. Here respondents were selected by using simple
random sampling technique. Questionnaires, interviews and document analysis were used for the
purpose of collecting relevant data. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative data
analysis methods/approaches. Closed ended and rating scale questions were analyzed
quantitatively whereas semi structured interview were analyzed qualitatively. The data obtained
through questionnaires were analyzed using statistical tool of percentage and tabulation. Data
gathered through interview and document analysis were considered to complement the
questionnaires in analyzed narrative form. The finding of the study indicated that knowing the
types, causes and sources of conflict is essential instrument to solve or to handle conflict and ensure
harmonious relationship among teachers, administrative workers and educational leaders. Finally,
the researcher recommended that educational leaders are expected to solve or to handle conflicts
that occur among teachers, administrative workers and educational leaders.
