Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to examine action research practice of
seccondary scchool teachers in West Denbia Woreda. A descriptive survey
design was used to conduct the study. Both primary and secondary sources
of data were used. The primary data sources were teachers, vice principals,
principals and cluster supervisor of secondary school in West Denbia
Woreda. The school documents were used as a secondary data source. About
93.3 % of the questionnaires were properly filled and returned by teachers.
In addition to this, interview from vice principals, principals and cluster
supervisors and document analysis were made to collect the necessary
information. Results obtained were analyzed by using simple percentages
and average mean ratings and narratives. The results of the study shown
that status action research conducted in seccondary scchool teachers of West
denbia Woreda was very low but teachers’ perception in action research as
improve their knowledge and skills, to solve teaching learning problems,
improve their methods of teaching, to solve the actual classroom problems,
to develop their collegial interactions were a good manure . The study
further revealed different factors that hamper teachers to conducting action
research in the study area are shortages of training, seminars and
workshops regarding research activities, insufficient budget, insufficient
reference materials and library services, lack of moral support from
principals, lack of knowledge and skills, lack of self-confidence to conduct
action research and etc.
Finally, to alleviate these problems, it was recommended that the school
management in cooperation with woreda education office, central Gondare
educational department administration and Amhara Regional Education

Bureau should arrange the means of improving the involvements of
teachers in conducting action research by allocating adequate budget and
providing an in-service trainings, workshops, seminars and experience
sharing programs regarding research
