dc.description.abstract |
The Federal Government of Ethiopia has issued policy, proclamations and regulations in order to
foster sound waste management practice throughout the country. Based on the measures taken at
the Federal level, Gondar City administration has issued regulations and established the necessary
institutions. However, to date, the implementation of the regulations, in particular provisions on
plastic bag waste management in Gondar city is not researched. The objective of this study is, thus,
to assess residents attitude, behavior and awareness towards disposal of plastic shopping bags in
the Case of Gondar City Administration marki sub city of shero meda. In order to address the
objectives of this study quantitative and qualitative research approach (concurrent mixed approach)
were used. The target populations of this study included community members and kebele administer.
Both probability and non-probability sampling were employed to select 301 participants. Data were
collected using both questionnaire and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using
descriptive statistics. The qualitative data gathered using interview was analyzed using thematic and
content analysis. The results of the descriptive statistics revealed that the mean value of residents
attitude, behavior and awareness towards disposal of plastic shopping bags were very low. Finally,
based on the conclusions of the study, the study made recommendations in order to address the
existing problems and to improve situations |
