Abstract:
Thepurposeofthisstudyistoexploreteachers'knowledgeandteaching
techniquesofEnglishskillsintegrationinteachingandlearningEnglishatyifag
andAddisZemensecondaryschools.Thestudyparticularly,foundoutteacher's
knowledgeondifferentteachingtechniquesofEnglishlanguageskillsinEnglish
classesandidentifiedwhichskill(s)wasdifficulttointegrateintheactual
classrooms.Tothisendthestudyemployeddescriptivesurveymethod,which
involvesquantitativeandqualitative(mixedmethod)datagatheringtoolsto
enrichthedata.Accordingly,YifagandAddisZemensecondaryschoolswere
selectedthroughavailabilitysampling.Then,fromfoursecondaryschoolstwoof
themwereselectedthroughlotterymethodandallthe17Englishteacherswere
selectedthroughcomprehensivesamplingtechnique.Inadditiontothis,toselect
studentsfrom thetwoschoolssystematicsamplingtechniquewasused.To
collectthenecessarydataforthestudytwosetsofquestionnairewereemployed
asthemaindatacollectingtools.Besides,focusgroupdiscussionandinterview
wereutilizingtosupplementandsubstantiatethedatagainedthroughthe
questionnaire.Toanalyzethequantitativedatatabular,meanandpercentage
wereutilized.Thequalitativedatawereanalyzedthematically.Theresultsofthe
studyrevealsthattheteacherswerenotcapableenoughontheknowledgeand
teachingtechniquesinEnglishskillsintegrationinEnglishclasses.Allinall,
teachersdidnotteachthefourskills(listening,speaking,readingandwriting)
integrativeinlessons;thatis,theyhardlytaughtthefourEnglishskillsin
integration in the lessons.Thus,the teacher's knowledge and teaching
techniquesofEnglishskillsintegrationwerenotgivensufficientattention.
