Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the factors affecting teachers’ motivation and job
performance in primary schools of Dangur woreda. The study was designed to assess the extent
of school working conditions, students behavior related factors and principals leadership style
relation with teachers motivation and job performance. For this purpose, 100 teachers, 3
principals, and 3 supervisors from the three primary schools were included. To gather the
necessary data, questionnaire and interview were used. Questionnaires were used to gather
quantitative data from teachers whereas interview was used to gather qualitative data from
principals and supervisors. The quantitative data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed
in terms of frequency and percentage. And the qualitative data obtained through interview was
analyzed narratively. On the basis of the data analysis the findings of the study yielded that, the
extent of school working conditions was poor. And the students behavior was affected teachers’
motivation and job performance negatively. The extent of principals’ leadership style was found
to be poor. Based on the results of the study some recommendations are forwarded to address
the issues. The researcher recommend that, the woreda education office should give training for
teachers, principals, and supervisor, design strategies, guide lines to improve teachers job
performance and to motivate teachers. The woreda education office should communicate with
the concerned woreda sectors and the Assosa University.
