Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the practice and challenges of instructional leadership
in primary schools of Amhara region North Shoa Zone Berehet woreda. The reviewed the related
on instructional leadership practices and challenges to identify factors that affect the effectiveness
of instructional leadership. Descriptive survey research method was employed. Four /4/clusters
and fifteen /15/ schools were addressed with in this study; namely Metehbila cluster, Teju
cluster, Mintmir cluster, and Gorgo cluster schools .The researcher used simple random and
purposive sampling method. The data was collected from schools principals, teachers,
supervisors, and woreda education office experts using , questionnaire , interview and document
analysis were used for the purpose of collecting relevant data .The data obtained through
questionnaires were analyzed using statistical tools like mean, average mean & standard deviation
more over data gathered through questionnaire, interview and document analysis were in
narration from. The finding of this study revealed that almost (70%) of instructional leaders were,
lack of skill and training, lack of commitment and moral to accomplish their tasks and severe
shortage of finance. Based on the finding, it was concluded that: schools were to same extent
incapable of enhancing teachers professional and instructional leader skill improve the quality of
education. Instructional leaders did not possess the required skill, knowledge and attitude through
training .In line with the above finding and conclusions it was recommended that: to equip
instructional leaders with necessary knowledge, skills and attitude the woreda education officials
may arrange training in different universities, and colleges. The schools need to income
generating sources with NGOs and school communities by preparing project and submit to
international donor.
