Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine assessment on the practice of teachers work performance
evaluation in some selected public General secondary schools of West gojjam Zone, and to come up
with corrective solutions. The method employed in the study was a descriptive survey. Questionnaire,
interview and document analysis were used to collect data from 5 principals, 10 students were selected
using comprehensive, purposive sampling techniques and 72 teachers were selected using stratified
random sampling techniques from some selected public General secondary schools of West gojjam
Zone. The data were analyzed by using percentage, frequency, by using SPSS version 20. The findings
of the study revealed the assessment on the practice of teachers work performance evaluation was
majority of teachers and principals have a good experience in education sector this helps to improve
teacher’s performance in teaching learning process, the educational status of teachers and principals
has degree, the majority of the teachers have a good experience in teaching learning process, the
most applicable performance evaluation method or tool is numeric riding scale. From the findings, it
was recommended that the school teachers needs to perform the participation of high performance of
teachers has improve at teaching learning process and sufficiently teaching efforts are directed toward
motivating their students. To encourage the status of teachers’ work performance evaluation on
teachers’ participation, usage a kind of motivate can be allocated. It may help to maximize teachers’
work performance and teachers should give specific attention toward this performance evaluation
teacher by improving their personality characteristics such as, educational status, use of different
channels of communication to facilitate the students in the classroom and enhanced their teachers’
work performance with teachers’ participation in collaborative research.
