The main objective of this study was to investigate teachers' practices and challenges in using
reading strategies in Metema High School. The study used descriptive survey design. The
respondents of the study were four English language teachers who were taken using availability
sampling and 120 students who were sampled from this school by systematic sampling technique
to cross check the teachers' responses. In order to collect data, students' questionnaire,
classroom observation, teachers' interview and textbook analysis were used. The quantitative
data which were obtained from questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics like
tabulate and mean were used, while this data obtained observation, interview and content
analysis were analyzed qualitatively. I using thematically the finding of study indicated that
teachers hardly engaged their students in reading strategies. In addition, the result shows that
there were very few strategies favored by teachers. The study recommended that English
language teachers should give special attention to reading strategy instruction to do what. |
