Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to examine the major themes of Amharic oral lyric poetry
in Debre Elias Woreda. As oral lyric poetry of Debre Elias Woreda was not explored genre,
one finds too few studies in such a vast and functional category of literature. This is the main
reasons for conducting this study. The study utilizes primary and secondary sources for data
collection. The instruments that are mainly used to collect the data are interview and
document analysis. According to the discussions in the analytical chapters, declaring
reflection of romantic relationship, appreciation of hard work, giving consolation, and
condemnations of laziness are the prominent thematic issues in oral poetry of Debre Elias
Woreda.
