ASSESSING THE CAUSE AND IMPACT OF CHILD LABOR ABUSE IN GONDAR ZURIA WOREDA: IN SPECIFIC TO MAKSEGNIT TOWN

Abstract

Nowadays child labour remains a persistent problem in the world today and Ethiopia is also among the countries facing such problem. Laborers are doing too many horrible practices on children. The problem is questionable today in Ethiopia and also to Gondar zuria woreda so, to assess the problem well and to fill the gaps properly the researcher was initiated to assess the cause and impacts of child labor abuse practices in Gondar zuria Woreda in specific to Maksegnit town. Accordingly, to answer the research questions the researcher was employed in-depth interviews, questionnaire , field observation and document analysis so as to get data participants were selected by purposive sampling technique from practitioners such as primary school teachers, principals, officers and working children. The research methodology the researcher employ was qualitative and quantitative method (mixed). The major findings in this research are; 1. Child labour in Gondar zuria woreda is considered as normal for children to work like adults.2. Poverty, rural to urban migration, family conditions, and low government mechanisms to control and avoid labour abuse are major causes, 3. among the impacts child labour affects schooling, brings physical injury and exploitation, psychological and health problems are major findings. so, in order to tackle the problem of child labour in Gondar zuria woreda, there is a need to adopt serious poverty reduction efforts, government should take strong measures on people who commit child labour abuse crime (laborers), government should create awareness for the community about children rights and child labour abuse, responsible bodies who are directly working on the issue of child labour abuse should discharge their responsibilities efficiently to overcome child labour abuse.
