Abstract:
Objective of this study is to assess the nature and prevalence of burglary-crime in Wogeda Town.
This study was examined the extent and nature of burglary crime, assessing major factors
leading to burglary crime, and basic measures to alleviate burglary-crime in the study area.
To attain these objectives and research problem, the study accessed both qualitative and
quantitative research method. The study was conducted three hundred seventy six (376)
targeted household informants selected by Yamane formula for questionnaire who are police
officers , primary court layers , community elder, Iddir leaders and victims of community by
burglary crime in Wogeda Town. Whereas twelve (12) key informants such as three investigators
police officers, four communities elder, three from religious leaders were purposively selected to
participate as key informants of the study. The study employed both primary and secondary data
sources. The primary data was mainly collected through semi- structured interviews, FGD and
questionnaire; while it was supplemented by information gathered from secondary sources of
data, from police report, review of relevant document analysis, journals and research report that
have direct or indirect relation with the research objectives was also reviewed. The data from
qualitative method was analyzed thematically by coding the inputs from the response while from
quantitative method were analyzed using simple descriptive statics. From common burglary
crime in study area; the most dominant burglarize crime was residential housebreaking. The
degree of burglary crime and number of criminals were becoming increased from time to time in
study area, due to highly proliferation unemployment, economic inequality and lack of
awareness and cooperation of community to fight against burglary crime in study area. Burglary
Crime is the major problems which the contemporary society faced today. Therefore, an
immediate and proper measure should be taken from the side of the government, social
institutions, community based organizations, other stake holders and the community pay huge
role at large to reduce burglary crime in study area.
