Abstract:
The study deals with indigenous conflict resolution institution among Haro Limmu
Oromo of eastern Wallaga with emphasis on the role of kallu institution for social and
economical. The functions that Oromo indigenous religious institution service for the
society for social and economical than the religious purpose
This thesis aims to fill this gap by examining the role of kallu institution in conflict
resolution for social and economical with comparing with other customary
institutions within the study area. To attain the objectives, the study employed
qualitative approach. Important data were collected from primary sources. The
primary data were collected in-depth interview and focus group discussion. The data
collected from those sources were organized thematically and analyzed qualitatively.
The findings of the study indicates economic and social role of kallu. Conflicts over
land boundary, theft, resource based and inheritance are the main causes of conflict
associated with economic interests. Conflict like homicide ethnic conflicts is related
with social. The decision enforcement mechanisms in the form of social sanctions and
the compensation mechanisms based on the type of conflict. On the other hand, Salge
is main actors in the traditional conflict resolution mechanisms.
