Abstract:
Non-Governmental Organizations in Ethiopia are considered as government partners to support
and filling its gap in different aspects of development activities at Macro and micro level.
Therefore the purpose of this study was to analyze the Contributions of World Vision Ethiopia
Dembia Area Development program for the improvement of household livelihood in its
intervention area. The research was conducted in four World Vision intervention
Communities.Simple random sampling was used to collected data. From 800 population,
266(34%) ofbeneficiary household heads were arbitrary selected. The instruments used to collect
data were structured and semi-structured questionnaire, interview for three sectors (health,
Education Women and Child affair offices) focal persons, FGDs (girls, boys women and men
groups) and documents. The study used both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis.
That included descriptive statistical techniques such as mean, mode, median, frequencies and
percentage. The qualitative and quantitative findings revealed that there was significant
improvement in basic areas of participants households livelihood across the study area. Increase
household asset, access to education, health services, and other project components has increased
considerably during the past 5 years.255(95.9%) householdssent their children to school for the
past five years as compared to five years earlier and 248(93.2%) households got better
medication.Even though there were different improvements after program intervention of World
Vision Area Development programs in the intervention area, better food availability as compared
to the five years before has not been improved to the required level. Only120 (45.1%) of
households got better food availability from World Vision Area Development Programs and
38(14.3%) of participants got better food availability from other programs in the area. Generally,
the study depicted that World Vision Area Development program contributed significant improvements for the
inclusive households in the intervention area, but the Organizations needs improvement in the area of payment
dalliance and construction. In order to achieve sustainable households livelihood improvement,
Governmental Sector Offices, World Vision Area Development program and other stake holders
should work together in order to effectively use the budgets for every development activities.
