Abstract:
The objective of this study was to Assess Teacher’s Teaching Methodology in Physical Education Class: the case of Aberhajira Woreda Some Selected Governmental Secondary School. The researcher was used descriptive research design to describe both quantitative and qualitative approach data. The qualitative data gathering instruments (close ended questions, interviews, and classroom observation) was used. From 470 total students 144 male and 146 females in sum 290(28%) samples were taken by Kothari (2006) formula to take questionnaire data and 4PE teachers, 1 supervisor and 2 principals were source of the interview data. In addition to this the researcher observed that the actual implementation of active learning methods in class room to gather observation data which was almost neglected by both teachers and students. The data was analyzed in computer by spss software version 23 to compute frequency percentage and mean of row data. So based on the finding managing a large classroom is too difficult to implement active learning methods in PE classrooms; performing different tasks in under resourced classrooms; and dealing with a politically biased school management committee and a lack of teachers’ awareness to practice different teaching strategies were some of the challenges that hindered the implementation of different teaching methods in PE classrooms. Generally, the implementation of some teacher centered methods like the lecture method and demonstration method was used only by PE teachers for formality to attend the classes rather than to develop learners PE competence. However, during classroom observation in the actual classroom, PE teachers were not effective as some major roles like facilitating and controlling classroom conditions were found to be two of the major problems. The other point considered in this study was the classroom condition. Chairs and tables in classrooms were not easily moveable, and there were a large number of students in class due to these factors, the implementation of different teaching methods failed at Aberahjira secondary schools.
