Abstract:
Calisthenics is a type of exercise where you use your own body weight with very little or no assistance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of calisthenics Exercise on selected physical fitness variables cardiovascular endurance, muscle endurance, flexibility, agility and speed. The study was conducted on the effect of calisthenics exercise on selected physical fitness variables. The study employed True experimental research design. The total subject of the study were thirty (n =30) male under 17 football project players of Amdework City administration. They participate in the team actively in 2015 E.C. The researcher was taken 30 players by censes sampling technique determine the subject. A simple random sampling technique was also used to assign control and experimental groups. 15 subjects randomized to the control group. The other 15 subjects were randomized to the experimental group. Finally, the experimental group was taken 8-weeks calisthenics exercise and the other group was assigned as a control group. The subject participated in 3 sessions per week for 40 minutes per session of exercise training, which comprised Jumping jack, push up, abdominal crunch, squat, side lifts, side plank, and step up, and plank. Both groups had taken pre and post-testing and cardio respiratory fitness was measured using 1.5 mile running test, flexibility was measured using sit and reach test and shoulder elevation test, muscle endurance was by 1 minute sit up and 1 minute push up test and speed was by 30 meter speed test, Agility was tested by Illinois Agility test. The data collected from the study subject was analyzed using SPSS version 25 software by paired t-test, independent sample t-test and descriptive statics mean and standard deviations with level of significant 0.05. The results showed calisthenics Exercise significantly improved cardiovascular fitness, speed, Agility, muscle endurance in the study subject at (p<0.05). But there were no significant change observed on flexibility the study subjects at (p>0.05). Based on this finding, it can be concluded that eight weeks calisthenics exercise has positive effect on improvement of cardiovascular, muscle endurance, agility and speed variables. For better improvement of physical fitness, everyone should engage in calisthenics exercise at least 3 days per week for 40 minutes each session.
