Abstract:
In Ethiopia, different individual had contributed a great role and epic for their country and
communities in different fields. It is something regrettable that many individuals who
contributed a lot to their people and country in different fields are forgotten after their death.
In the absence of written records, their contribution could not be transformed for the next
generation and be a source of inspiration. Therefore, the main objective of this study is
primarily to honor and acknowledge important personalities like Šäykh Lägäss Adäm, in
order not to remain their deeds, achievements and contributions hidden, without being known
to their society.
As a result of this fact, I have decided to write a biography of Šäykh Lägäss Adäm, a well known and famous person who served his peoples as a social justice commentator to be a
voice for voiceless society throughout his life. He also strongly served his community by his
knowledge of Traditional Medicine to cure mostly skin diseases by gaining certificate from
Ethiopian public health center with cheap price regardless of religion and ethnicity as true in
many cultures and daily life’s of the Ethiopian society. The data for this study was collected
from interviews (which made in Gondar, Tikildigay and Gondar Zuria Woreda), Gondar
public library, Institute of Ethiopian Studies, primary and secondary sources, archrival
documents that have been collected from his family descendants as well as from published
and un-published materials focusing on the issue.
Moreover, the study deals with the family background, birth, growth, education, and
important achievements of Šäykh Lägäss Adäm from 1876 to 1981.
