Abstract:
Tourism is an energetic force that motivates travel to discover nature, meet people, interact with
values, and experience novel traditions and events. The main objective of this study was to assess
the potential tourism resources and its developmental constraints in Andabet Woreda. To
achieve this objective, descriptive design with mixed research approach was employed.
Communication office experts, natural resources management experts, leaders of church and
Kebele were respondents for questionnaire survey whereas culture and tourism office,
‘betekihinet’ office, and natural resources management experts’ team leader were key
informants for interview. Primary quantitative data were collected from 150 respondents via
census and qualitative data were collected from 11 informants via snowball and purposive
techniques. Both primary and secondary data sources were used. Quantitative data were
analysed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean
and standard deviation. While qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis. The
finding of the study revealed that Andabet Woreda has so many potential natural tourism
resources such as waterfalls, forests, and hot springs and cultural tourism resources include
Monasteries, churches, cultural festivals and indigenous handicrafts. On the other hand lack of
museum, absence of tourism accommodation, and inaccessibility of the tourist sites. Finally,
wildlife and bird watching, trekking, hiking, visiting, sightseeing, photograph, and caving are
investigated as tourism activities that can be developed at the study area. So, to improve tourism
industry in the study area culture and tourism office, government, locals and non-governmental
organization should emphasis on minimizing of tourism constraints.
