Abstract:
Background: Human papilloma virus is the commonest viral sexually transmitted infection in
the world. It is the leading cause of cervical cancer, which has a very high mortality rate;
however most people don抰 know ways of transmission, prevention strategies and longtime
health complications of human papilloma virus infection.
Objective: To assess knowledge about human papilloma virus, acceptability of its vaccine and
associated factors among high school girls in Gondar town north West Ethiopia, 2019.
Methods: Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted from March to April 2019 and
multi-stage sampling technique was used with a total sample size of 845. Self-administered and
structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Multi-variable logistic regression used to
identify statistical significant factors. P value < 0.05 with AOR at 95% confidence interval
considered as statistically significant.

Conclusion and recommendations: Despite of inadequate knowledge about human papilloma
virus the acceptability of HPV was high. Had discussion with parents on sexual and reproductive
health issue and had recommendation from health care provider were statistically significant
factors for knowledge about human papilloma virus whereas residence, grade level, had history
of taking other vaccine and perceived stigma were statistically significant factors for
acceptability of its vaccine. Provision of sexual and reproductive health education should be
considered and better to consider vaccination against human papilloma virus for adolescents.
