Abstract:
Background:- Sexual dysfunction is unable to maintain erection, ejaculation, sexual
satisfaction; sexual fantasies and orgasmic capacity are common among epileptic
patients which is not given due attention and adequately researched in Ethiopia and
study setting as well.
Objective:-To determine the prevalence and associated factors of sexual dysfunction
among married epileptic patients attending chronic epileptic follow up at public
hospitals in northwest Ethiopia.
Methods:-Institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted among epileptic
patients attending at public hospitals in northwest Amhara from April to May
30/2021. Multistage systematic random sampling was imployed to select study
participants. The outcome variable was measured using a tool called Change in
Sexual Function Question
Result: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction among married epileptic patients was
60.2%
Conclusion and recommendation: - The prevalence of SD in this study was high and
many factors significantly affect sexual dysfunction. Therefore health care
professionals should counsel the patients about good relationship, balanced diet,
regular exercise, weight reduction and treat the patients using Lamotrigine.
