Abstract:
Introduction: Pelvic organ prolapse is one of a major cause of morbidity among women
which affect their quality of life by restricting physical, social, psychological and sexual
functioning. Despite the severity of the problem there is limited information about the
prevalence and associated factors of pelvic organ prolapse among women in South
Nations Nationalities, Peoples� Region
associated factors among women attending gynecologic outpatient department in referral
hospitals of SNNPR, Ethiopia 2021.
Method: A hospital based cross- sectional study was conducted among women
attending gynecologic outpatient department in referral hospitals of SNNPR, Ethiopia
from April 10- May 10, 2021 by using a structured, interviewer-administered
questionnaire, anthropometric measurement and physical examination. Systematic
random sampling technique was used to select 1218 women. The data entered to EPI
data version 4.6 and exported to the SPSS version 25 for analysis. Binary logistic
regression analysis was employed and multivariable logistic regression model used to
control confounders. Finally, presence of an association was declared by using p-value <
0.05. Likewise, adjusted odds ratio with its respective 95% CI was used to interpret the
direction as well as the strength of an association.
Results: A total of 1196 respondents were included with a response rate of 98.1%. The
prevalence rate of symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse found to be 20.1%
