Abstract:
Introduction: Post-natal care is the care given during the period just after delivery of
placenta extending through six weeks of life. Globally, there were an estimated 289 000
maternal deaths from complications related to pregnancy and child birthevery year,
three million neonates die within their first month of life.
Objective: To assess utilization of post-natal care service and associated factors
among women who gave birth in the past 6months in Gondar city North West Ethiopia,
2020.
Method: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February 130,
2020who given birth in the last 6 months from the 07selected kebeles and 3sub
citiesof Gondar city. Multistage random sampling was employed to select a total
of698eligible participants and data was collecting using interviewer administered
structured questionnaire. The data were entered into Epi info and SPSS version
21software for analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis and multivariable logistic
regressions was used to see the association. Independent variables with a P-value?0.2
were considered to be statistically significant and those variables are taken to
multivariable logistic regression.
Result: The overall prevalence of post-natal care service utilization was 49.0 [95%CI:
45.00, 53.00]. Rich wealth status [AOR= 1.66, 95%CI; 1.03, 2.68], Know danger sign of
postpartum [AOR= 2.44, 95%CI; 1.62, 3.67], know presence of PNC [AOR= 11.23,
95%CI; 7.55, 16.71], and Think PNC service is important [AOR=3.90, 95%CI; 1.70,
8.96] were positively associated with post-natal care services utilization.
Conclusion: In the study area researches on utilization of post-natal care service is
high. Wealth index, know danger sign of postpartum, know presence of PNC and Think
PNC service is important were significantly associated with utilization of post-natal care
services
