Abstract:
The objective of the study is appraising the socio-economic effects of development induced
displacement on the livelihoods of displaced households due to Agro- processing industry park in
Bure district. The study used both quantitative and qualitative Approaches with concurrent
mixed method design. Close and open ended questionnaire and key informant check lists were
used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. To collect data 249 displaced households were
selected by using random sampling technique. The reason that the researcher employed this
technique is to give equal chance for all displaced household. The study was employed
descriptive and thematic analysis to properly address the abovementioned objectives.
Accordingly, the findings of this study shows that, due to development induced displacement
displaced households were facing various socio-economic problems and it also disrupt the
livelihood advantages and economic bases of displaced households. Consequently, Loss of land,
economic insecurity, livelihood disruption, and break down of family and community
relationship and isolation are the major problems facing displaced households. Even though,
displaced households have developed their own coping strategies, most of them have not used
any strategy. Generally, this study recommends that, displaced households need consideration
either governmental or non-governmental institutions work on the improvement of displaced
households socially and economically.
