Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to identify factors affecting resistance to change among
employees in the case of Amhara Road Works Enterprise. The study is quantitative in its approach
and has been able to use an explanatory research design. To achieve its objective primary data
has been collected from 202 sample respondents by using stratified sampling techniques. Various
statistical tools like descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze and
interpret the data. The finding of the study showed that among the four predictors (dispositional
resistance to change, perceived benefit of change, involvement in change, and employee management relationship), the three (dispositional resistance to change has positive significant
effect, and both perceived benefit of change and involvement in change have negative significant
effect) on the resistance to change. Among which involvement in change was identified to be the
most determinant factor that negatively and strongly affects resistance to change. The multiple
regression analysis of the study revealed that all the independent variables contributed 68.7% of
variances in resistance to change and the remaining 31.3% is explained by other variables which
were not included in this study. Therefore; the researcher strongly recommends that the enterprise
should manage employees' dispositional resistance, boost their positive expectations of the
change, and encourage employee involvement in the process of change to curb the problem of
resistance to change.
