Abstract:
The main aim of this thesis was reconstructing a biography of Leǧ Abӓbӓ Gubäna from 1928 -
1997 so as to learn the contributions he made for the society and his country. Its main objective
was to honor Leǧ Abӓbӓ Gubäna in order not to remained to hidden him in the history of
great personalities without being known to the public . It was mainly conducted for an
academic purpose. So that it organized in to four chapters. It began with his family
backgrounds in connection with his early life and careers. Followed by it pointed out the
political position that he assumed and his leadership manner . Then it described his specific
achievements in the introduction of church and formal education, the building of school and
roads as well as his socio-economic roles in the region. Besides this, it tried to displayed a
Ethiopian nationalism to got rid of the feudal balabats as well as the Derg regime so as to built
democratic Ethiopia. Moreover, the researcher employed qualitative research method. So that,
both primary and secondary sources were used. But, shortage of secondary sources was forced
the researcher a concentration on oral sources which were collected from the eldest
communities. It was crosschecked with the archival sources and the existed literatures from
different scholarly works . Whereas personal and official letter, pictures, photographs and
archives were collected from institutions and his families. Finally, these institutions and
informants were ethically considered and duly acknowledged.
