dc.description.abstract Background : there has been a progress in the access to family planning services and products globally, but the unmet needs for family planning continue to remain high. Women who want to postpone their birth or who want to stop childbearing but are not using a contraceptive method are considered to have an unmet need for family planning. Pregnant women are considered to have an unmet need for family planning if their pregnancy was mistimed or unwanted. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine magnitude and factors associated for unmet need of contraceptive use among reproductive age women in West Belessa districts. Methods: A community based cross sectional study was conducted among women of reproductive age groups in West Belessa Woreda. A total of 439 study participants were included in the study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. Initially five kebels; two from urban and three from rural kebeles were selected. Then the sample size proportionally allocated based on eligible population in selected kebeles. Data was collected using face to face interview by questionnaire. Binary logistic regression model was employed to examine the determinant factors affecting unmet need of contraceptive use . Conclusions: Based on the result of the study the magnitude of unmet need in West Belesa Woreda was found to be 23.75%. the study concludes that level of respondents’ education, age, place of residence of the respondent, husbands’ education and media exposure were found significant determinant unmet need of contraceptives in the West Belessa Woreda. Recommendations: based on the findings and conclusions, the study recommends, health profession working at reproductive health in collaboration with health extension workers, should give greater emphasis to address family planning in taking attention to women of low educational status and residing in rural through utilization of contraceptive methods using mass media, community mobilization and health education in more comprehensive manner en_US
