Abstract:
This thesis is a historical study of Tedda Egziabher Ab church in Gondar from 1667-1682.A year
from the coronationits founder, Emperor Yohannes I to his death at Tedda in 1682.The vision of
Kings and monks acting as the patrons and founders of churches and monasteries is a familiar on
the history of Christian Ethiopia.Emperor Yohannes I contributed much for the growth of
Orthodox christianity.He was erected church of Tedda Egziabher Ab in Tedda.This thesis also
focused emperor Yohannes I called Yohannes the pious. At the end of his reign he made two
synods at Gondar in 1680 and 1681.The church of Tedda Egziabher Ab buildings and its
enclosure was resemblance to Gondarien style of architecture. The compound of the church
consisted of prayer house, store house, the main gate house, the tomb of Yohannes the pious and
its enclosure. The buildings of the church were affected by both human and natural factors.
