Abstract:
Introduction: Education is the process through which students acquire knowledge, develop skill,
change in behavior and shape personality .In addition to this education is an essential and basic
investment since it results is in the form of human resource development, which return
contributes the total aspects of country’s development. Objective: The purpose of the present study is
to identify the challenges and students perception towards physical education in Alefa Woreda High
Schools. Method: The researcher used a quantitative research and descriptive research method.
The data was collected using self-administered close and open ended structured questionnaires
from 334 students, 2 teachers and 2 administration respondents by using simple random sampling
technique. The data was analyzed using frequency and percentage using Statistical Packages for Social
Science /SPSS/. Results: The findings of the study revealed that students have low intensions to attend
physical education instruction in the schools without the regardless of sex discrimination. Lack
of suitable sport play grounds, presence of sufficient physical education teachers, physical
education time allotted in the school, and weather condition in practical implementation of
physical education in regular class program were found the major challenges for physical
education in the schools. Finally, recommendations were forwarded based on the major findings so as
to minimize problems encountered and maximize the implementation of interactive learning of physical
education
