Abstract:
Social interaction is features of social life networks, norms, and trust that enable
participants to act together more effectively to pursue shared objectives. The purpose of
this study was to assess the determinants of social interaction among condominium
residents in Debre Tabor condominium sites. In this study the researcher used quantitative
research approach and descriptive type of research design was employed. All seven
condominium sites of Debre Tabor town were selected. All sites of condominium were
included in the study and random sample of houses were selected from each. The sample
size of the study were 230 sample determined by using stratified simple random sampling
technique. The data were gathered from primary data source. The quantitative data of this
study were collected by using questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by using
both descriptive statistics (percentage and frequency) and inferential statistics such as chisquare
test. Binary logistic regression model also used to identify the determinant factors
that affect the kind social interaction among condominium house residents in the study
area. The result of the study indicated that the status of social interaction among
condominium residents were medium level and participated on Iddir, Mahiber, Iqub and
environmental cleanup programs. The majority of the residents did not have a schedule to
make social interaction. Households mainly practiced individual to individual form of
social interaction. The chi-square result showed that; age, marital status, education status,
perception, interest, cultural norms, income, various social activities, inclusive nature of
social interaction, physical condition, length of residents and place of origin were
significant factors which affect households social interaction. On the bases of the binary
logistic regression result, age, length of stay, income, inclusive, perception and interest
were positively associated and significant determinant factors while place origin, physical
condition, cultural norms and various social activities were negatively associated and
significant determinant factors of social interaction. So to solve the problem the
communities as well as responsible bodies should take measures as soon as possible to
mitigate the communities’ social interaction.
