Bibugn woreda is one of the twenty woredas in East Gojjam zone. The woreda is located between Debre Marqos and Motta town near Choke Mountain. This study surveys archaeological and cultural heritages in Bibugn woreda, East Gojjam, particularly focusing on the archaeological sites, traditional house buildings of private individuals and churches. The research identified archaeological materials, sites and handling systems of the private traditional houses. In addition, it infers cultural heritages by studying the traditional house construction materials, shapes, purposes, common features and indigenous knowledge.
This study seeks to know, understand and document traditional house buildings and their socio-economic roles. Among the main findings of the study are detail analysis of the burial house in Digo Mariam church and in Egizier Dilidy or God bridge the engraved pictures like horse, donkey, cow and sheep are found. In terms of the traditional house building, the research focused on the foundation, wall, and roof systems of traditional buildings. It may also identify and understands the building materials of both church and private individual traditional houses. |
