A survey of the orthodox Christian parchment m Manuscripts in Enemay Woreda, Amhara Regional State

Abstract

The research provides information about the material of the parchment, preparation of the manuscripts, the materials and preparation of inks, the tools of pens, the techniques and the material for the binding of the manuscripts, pricking of the manuscripts and the material that used for pricking, the decoration of manuscripts, columns. Yet, these manuscripts are exposed to different challenges; to reduce the above cited and other related problem these research show the method of proper management of parchment manuscripts. To conduct this research the researcher selected the following religious sites: Cholemit Maryam monasteries, Yerez Michael churches, Enekerker Giyorgis church and Bichena Giyorgis Debires. To select these monasteries, churches and Debires the researcher used purposive sampling method. The main data collection methods were field observation, structural interview and referring different material related to the research topic and the researcher analysis the collected data through qualitatively by using descriptive method. In general this research shows the condition of the parchment manuscripts in the area and how to conserve and transfer for the next generation and the role of stakeholder to preserve these priceless art works.
