dc.description.abstract Introduction; Sleep occupies one-third of our lives and is important to physical and mental growth and stability. However, when put next to the general population, the risks of getting poor sleep quality are measured higher in prisoners. Objective: To assess Sleep quality and associated factors among prisoners in Gondar Town main Prison, North West Ethiopia, 2022 Method: an Institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted using a systematic random sampling technique among 741 prisoners from May 1 to 30 /2022. Data were collected by using a structured Interviewer-administered questionnaire. The collected data were entered into Epi-data 7.2 and analyzed by using SPSS-20. Descriptive and analytical statistics were used. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression were employed. The statistical significance was used at a p-value < 0.05. Result: In this study, data were collected from a total of 740 randomly selected prisoners with a response rate of 99.8% and 79.3% had poor sleep quality. Having a previous history of imprisonment [AOR=1.63, 95%CI:(1.05-2.56)].Having depression [AOR=1.584, 95% CI: (1.04-2.42)],anxiety[AOR=2.52, 95% CI: (1.62-3.94)], 5.1-10 years duration of sentenced [AOR =2.18, 95% CI: (1.05-4.52)],10.1-18 years duration of sentenced [AOR =3.68, 95% CI:( 1.49-9.04)] and sleep hygiene,[AOR =1.84, 95% CI: (1.19-2.83)] were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Conclusion and recommendation: The study found a high prevalence of poor sleep quality among prisoners. Management of sleep problems is crucial for prisoners.
