Introduction: Nursing is a noble profession that requires nurses to devote their
entire lives to provide comprehensive care to those who are suffering. Nursing has
faced numerous cultural challenges, including negative attitudes that may have
deterred people from entering the field. This isn't a problem for a single country; it's a
worldwide concern. Ethiopia is one of the countries with a highly understaffed
healthcare workforce and there is no published study on nursing students' attitudes.
Objective: This study was aimed to assess attitude and its associated factors
towards the nursing profession among BSc nursing students learning at
governmental universities in the west Amhara region, Ethiopia, 2021
Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted in west Amhara
region governmental universities, Ethiopia from April 1 to 15, 2021. Simple random
sampling technique was used to select 423 participants. Data were collected by using
a pre-tested structured questionnaire, entered into Epi-data version 4.6, and exported
to SPSS version 23.0 for analysis. Model fitness was checked by the HosmerLemeshow
goodness of fit test. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to
present findings. Binary logistic regression was employed to identify associated
factors. 95% CI and p<0.05 were used to show the strength of association and
statistically significant association respectively.
