Abstract:
Introduction: Quality of Nursing work life (QNWL) is the degree to which nurses are
able to satisfy important personal needs through their experiences in their work
organization while achieving the organization’s goals. However different studies
conducted to assess the QNWL explain dissatisfaction of nurses in their QNWL.
Therefore this study conducted to assess QNWL thoroughly since previous studies do
very little to assess the quality of work life of nurses, It uses specific tools developed to
assess the QNWL.
Objective: To assess Quality of Nursing Work Life and associated factors among
Nurses working in Amhara region referral hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia, April 2017.
Method: Institution based cross-sectional study used among nurses working in
Debremarkos referral hospital, Felegehiwot referral hospital and university of Gondar
referral hospital from April 01-30 /2017. A total of 461 nurses enrolled in the study.
Simple random sampling was employed to select study participants. A pretested
Brook`s self administered questionnaire was used. Data was checked for completeness,
consistency & accuracy and it was entered to EPI data 3.1 and imported to SPSS
version 22 for analysis. Frequencies and cross tabulations used to summarize
descriptive statistics. For all statistical significance tests, p<0.05 with 95% CI was used.
Both Bivariate& Multivariate analysis employed to evaluate the association of different
variables.
Result: prevalence of good QNWL was 40.8% among nurses and 59.2% had poor
quality of nursing work life. Significant association b/n satisfaction with QNWL and
public image of a society (AOD = 5.55, 95%CI= (2.39-12.84)), nursing position

Conclusion:
The study findings revealed that 59.8% had poor QWL. Working
department, lack of adequate physical facility and poor nursing image affect QNWL.
