Abstract:
Introduction: Self-medication practice, as one element of self-care, is a use of
medication, without prescribing by health care professional concerning to dosage,
indication, and duration of treatment to treat self-recognized illness. Globally, it
increases time to time and becomes a common health care practice. The major problem
related to self medication practice are; increased resistance of pathogens, wastage of
resource, masking the underlined cause of diseases and causes serious health hazards
of individuals and larger societies such as prolonged suffering and adverse reaction.
Objective: To assess the prevalence of self-medication practice and its associated
factors among adult household members in Meket Woreda, Northeast Ethiopia.2017
Methods: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among adult
household members in Meket Woreda from April 5 to April 20, 2017. A total of 744 study
participants were enrolled in the study. Multi-stage sampling method was used to
select study participants. A pretested semi structured data collection tool with interviewe
administered technique was used to collect data. Epi-info version 7 for data entry and
SPSS version 22 for data analysis was used. Binary logistic regression was used for
data analysis.
Results: the response rate of this study was 97%. Among the total participants more
than half
practice within one month recall period. Marital status
Conclusion: The result of this study was relatively high.
