Abstract
Background: A majority of women suffer from low back pain and pelvic pain in the time
of their pregnancy and it persists to postpartum time. This condition impacts negatively on
many of the daily activities of women, especially weight bearing activities such as walking
and standing. And it’s not addressed issue by researchers. To date there is no published
research on prevalence and associated risk factors of postpartum low back pain in our
setup
Objectives: The aim of this study is to determines the prevalence and associated factors
of postpartum self reported low back pain among women attending postnatal care in
Kemissie town governmental health institution
Method: Institution based cross sectional study was conducted among 412 postnatal
women. Data was collected by interview using pretested structured questionnaire. Data
were entered and analyzed using Epi Info version 7 and SPSS version 23 respectively.
Bivariable and Multivariable binary logistic regression were used to see the association
between independent and the outcome variable with 95% CI and P value<0.05

Conclusion and recommendation: Nearly one third of postpartum women
attending in hospital and health center experiences low back pain. History of low back
pain and low back pain during recent pregnancy was factor significantly associated with
low back pain after delivery. Federal minster of health and regional health bureau should
include low back pain assessment in the component of antenatal care and postnatal care.
