Introduction: -Low
back
pain
is public
health
issue
and
has
significant
socioeconomic impact with multifactorial, bio psychosocial public health problem in the world. However; there is little evidence on the prevalence and associated factors of low back pain among health care professionals in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of low back pain and its associated factors among
health care professionals.
Methods: - An
institutional
based
cross-sectional
study
was
conducted
from
November
2016 at
Felege
Hiwot
specialized
referral
hospital.
Stratified
sampling
technique
was
used
to determine
sample
size
from
each
profession
(strata). A
sample size ‘’n’’ were chosen by lottery method from each department (strata) and
adapted
standardized
self-administered
Nordic
questionnaire
was
used to
collect
data. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association of variables. Prevalence with its 95% confidence interval was computed and data was analysis by SPSS version 20.
Results: - A total of 349 participants were involved with response rate of (90.8%), Mean age of the participants was 29.90 with standard deviation of 5.93 year. About
161(50.8%) of the participants had low back pain in the last 12 months. The highest
prevalence
was
reported
by nurses (62.73%).

95%CI: 1.723-10.009), being married (AOR= 3.331, 95%CI: 1.336-8.303) and Doing
physical
exercise

0.122,
95%CI
0.044-0.338)
were
significantly
associated
with low back pain.
Conclusions: - High prevalence of low back pain with some significant association
was
found.
Preventive
measure
should be
taken to
minimize
the
risk of
low
k
pain
by enhancing
physical
exercise
and
educational
program
for
health
care
professionals.
