Abstract:
Abstract
Introduction: Stunting and wasting are the indicators of undernutrition, which were
among the common causes of morbidity and mortality in children with type 1
diabetes mellitus. In Ethiopia, there is limited study on the prevalence and
associated factors of stunting and wasting among children with type 1 diabetes
mellitus.
Objectives: To assess the prevalence and associated factors of stunting and
wasting among children with type 1 diabetes mellitus at Amhara Regional State
Comprehensive Specialized Hospitals, Ethiopia/2021.
Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March
29-May 21/2021. The simple random sampling technique was used to select 422
respondents. Data were collected through interviews, chart review, and measuring
weight and height. Data entry and analysis were done by EPI-info version-7.2.3.1
and SPSS version-25.0.0.1 respectively. The bi-variable and multivariable logistic
regression were used to identify the factors. A p-value of
?0.05 and
an AOR with a
95%CI were used to determine the statistically significant association.
Result: Among 422 samples, 410 respondents with a 97.16% response rate
participated in the study. About 26.8% and 22.7% of children were stunted and
wasted respectively. Poor glycemic control
