Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Integrated management of newborn and childhood illness relies on
case detecting by using simple clinical signs, symptoms and empirical treatment under
age of five. Primary health care workers especially nurses often work in remote areas to
resolve a challenging conditions Integrated Management of newborn and Childhood
illnessis the key strategy.
Objective: to assess factors influencing the implementation of integrated management
of newborn and child hood illness among nurses working in North Gondar zone woreda
health centers, Northwest Ethiopia.
Methods: An Institutional based cross-sectional study was employed from April 130/2017
among450 study participants . Simple random sampling techinique was
employed to recruit participants Pretested,structured and self administer questioner
used to collect data. The collected data were checked, coded and entered to EPI-INFO
version 7 and exported to SPSS version 22 for analysis. Descriptive summery and
outcome was computed byusing table and also applied multivariable logistic regressions
were used in order to identify factors.
Results: The overall implementation of IMNCI was53 % . In multivariable analysis, a
significantly associated factors ofimplementation integrated management of newborn
and child hood illnesses weretrained nurses [AOR,5, 95%CI: 3,8.8] and favorable
attitude of nurses [AOR,3.25, 95%CI: 2.07, 5.1].
Conclusion and Recommendation:Nurse’simplementation ofintegrated management
of newborn and child hood illnesses at North Gondar Woreda health centers wasfound
to be low. Training and favorable attitude amongnurse staffs weresignificantly
association with implementation of integrated management of newborn and child hood
illness. Training, refreshment and supportive supervision needs to be given to nurses in
order to improve implementation.
