Abstract:
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Postterm pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy that has reached or
extend beyond 294 days or 42 weeks of gestation. Worldwide the incidence of post term
pregnancy varies and ranges from 1.16% to 8.94%.Postterm pregnancy is associated
with significant perinatal complications like increased perinatal mortality,
oligohydramnios, meconium-stained amniotic fluid, low 5-minute APGAR
Objective: The objective of this study is to determinethe magnitude and associated
factors of adverse perinatal outcomes of late term and postterm pregnanciesamong
women who deliveredatUniversity of Gondar specializedhospital, northwest Ethiopia,
2021.
Methods:comparative cross-sectional study was conducted From March to October
2021 with sample size of 274participants whodelivered in the study period. Semistructured
questionnaire and data collection check listwas used to collect the data.
Descriptive statistics will be performed to describe the characteristics of the study
populations and multivariable logistic regression model was constructed to identify
covariates significantly associated with the outcome variables. Statistical significance
will be declared at P-value<0.05 and the AOR with 95% confidence levelwas used to
determinethe strength of association.
Result: The magnitude of adverse perinatal outcome is 33.9%
The adverse perinatal outcome in late term pregnancy is 28.5%
vii
Adverse perinatal outcome in post term pregnancy39.4%
Teenage pregnancy
Conclusion:Adverse perinatal outcome is significantly higher in post term pregnancy
as compared to late term pregnancy. There is high prevalence of MSAF and meconium
aspiration which is directly associated with increased risk of perinatal morbidity and
mortality. So, elective induction of labor at 41weeks of gestation may be considered to
decrease complications associated with post term pregnancy.it is also higher in
teenagers and district and zonal health officers should give education about
reproductive health family planning.
