Abstract
Introduction: Asthma is a disease characterized by chronic inflammatory disorder of
the airways which results in enormous burden of disease, premature mortality and poor
quality of life on patients. Evidences with regard to conventional clinical outcomes like
respiratory symptoms and pulmonary functions, however, do not elucidate limitations in
physical, emotional, and social life on patients, which influence patients’ quality of life.
Assessing health-related quality of life of patients addresses various aspects of impacts
due to illness, which cannot be obtained from clinical diagnosis procedures.
Objective: To assess health-related quality of life and associated factors among
asthma patients in University of Gondar Comprehensive and Specialized Hospital,
North West Ethiopia, 2020.
Methods: Institutional based cross-sectional study was used. A total of 422 patients
were included using systematic random sampling method, from patients with confirmed
diagnosis of asthma for at least 1 year. The data was analyzed by using STATA Version
14 soft ware. The influence of the different variables included in the study on the
EuroQol five-dimensional and EuroQol VAS wasevaluated using bi-variable and
multivariable binary logistic regression analysis at significance level of p-value<0.05.
Finally, the results were presented by texts, tables and figures.
Results: A total of 422 patients were finally included |
