Abstract
Background: - Nursing care services are an important aspect of health system for
enhancing patient health outcome and quality of health care. Poor-quality of care
accounting for up to 15% of all deaths in low & middle-income countries. The previously
studied researches have conducted in fragmented way such as focusing on structure or
outcome part only. As a result, there is a need to conduct process of evaluation in nursing
care service with structure, process and outcome.
Objective: - To evaluate the process of nursing care service in medical and surgical
wards at St. Paul’s Hospital, Millennium Medical College 2022
Methods of Evaluation: -formative evaluation approach, facility-based case study
design with mixed method was employed from June 24 to July 30 2022. Availability,
compliance, and satisfaction dimensions measured by 32 indicators. A sample of 384
participants and a chart, 20 observations, and six key informant interviews were taken
using simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. Data entered into
Epi-Data version 3.1 and analyzed by STATA 14.0; open-code software used to analyze
qualitative data. A logistic regression analysis employed to assess the association of
independent variables with the outcome variable. Variables with P-values less than 0.25
in bivariable analysis entered into multivariable models to identify the associated factors.
In the multivariable analysis, variables with a p-value less than 0.05 chosen as an
associated factor to the outcome variable. The overall process of nursing care determined
based on judgmental criteria.
Results: - The overall process of nursing care services in the SPHMMC medical and
surgical wards was fair
