Abstract;
Introduction; Good governance in health systems promotes the effective delivery of
health services. However, managers with the necessary skills and expertise, supportive
work environments, professional commitment, drug supply and medical equipment,
budget, human resources, regular performance reviews, team coordination, and
community awareness are shortages of government to achieve good governance at all
levels of in the health institutions.
Objective; The objective of the study is to assess good governance practice and
associated factors among healthcare professionals at public health institutions in
Gondar city administration, Northwest Ethiopia, 2022.
Methods: Institution-based cross-sectional quantitative study supported by a qualitative
study design was conducted during the period of May22 to June 23/2022 among
healthcare professionals working at public health institutions in the Gondar city. Simple
random sampling technique was used. Data were obtained using self-administrated
structured and interview guide questionnaires. Bivariate and multivariate logistic
regressions were fitted to identify associated variables. The adjusted odds ratio (AOR)
with 95% confidence interval (CI) and p-value 0.05 were used to determine the
significance of the association.
Results: A total of 417 study healthcare professionals were included in the study with a
response rate of 98.35%. Epi Data V 4.6,SPSS version 24 for quantitative analysis, and
for qualitative open code version, 4.02 software was used.AOR with a 95% Cl was used
as a measure of association and assumptions for the model fitness were checked.
Awareness creation 2.64(AOR=2.64,95%CI;[1.38,5.07]), Taking (seminars, trainings,
workshops) 2.33 (AOR=2.33,95%CI; [1.00, 5.42]), and Community participation 3.18
(AOR=3.18, 95%CI; [1.47, 6.88]) were associated factors of good governance practice.
Conclusion and recommendation: The overall magnitude of good governance
knowledge, attitude and practice among healthcare professionals in Gondar city
administration was poor 35.97%. This needs good public health governance attention.
The provision of healthcare professionals with (seminars, trainings, workshops, frequent
monitoring and evaluation, and active community participation) will have strengthened
the practice of good governance in public health institutions.
