Abstract
Introduction:In Ethiopia,road traffic accident contributed fatality rate of 37 per 100,000
populations per year, and 83% of traffic crashes attributed to risky driving behavior
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess risky driving behavior and its associated factors
among public transport drivers in East Gojjam Zone using health belief model, North West
Ethiopia, 2021, mixed method.
Methods:A cross-sectional study combined with concurrent descriptivequalitative study was
employed. A total of 369public transport vehicle drivers selected by multi-stage sampling
participated in quantitative part, and 9 participants of which,5 drivers selected by purposive
heterogenous sampling technique,2 driving school instructors and 2 traffic policesselected
through purposive intensity sanpling techniques were involved in qualitative part.The survey
data were collected through interviewer- administered technique and for qualitative study, indepth
interview and key informant interview techniques were used. Data entered to Epidata
version 4.6. was exported to Stata software version14 andmultiple linear regression model was
fitted with statistical significance at p-value < 0.05 with 95 % confidence interval. Qualitative
data collected in Amharic language with the aid of voice recordor was transcribed verbatim and
translated to English. After reading and rereading translated document, coding and thematic
analysis was done.
Results:The mean risky driving behavior score was 1.74(
