dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT Introduction: Thyroid dysfunction affects several hundreds of people worldwide. It is associated with renal impairment and dyslipidemia. However, evidence lack on the magnitude of renal impairment and dyslipidemia among patient with thyroid dysfunction in Ethiopia, particularly in the study area. Objective: To assess the prevalence of renal impairment and dyslipidemia and their associated factor among thyroid dysfunction patients at Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital, Bihar Dar, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 06- August 31, 2019 at Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital. A total of 384 study participants were selected using systematic random sampling technique. Clinical and socio-demographic data were collected using pre-tested structured questionnaire. 5ml fasting venous blood was collected for renal function (creatinine and urea) and lipid profile (TC, HDL-C, LDL-C and TG), and thyroid function (T3, T4 and TSH) tests determination using Mindray BS-200E chemistry analyzer (Mindray medical international Ltd China) and hormone analyzer (Vidas Ltd France) respectively. Data was entered Epi-Info version 7.2.1.0 and transported and analyzed using SPSS version 20. Logistic regression was done to determine associated factors P-value less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Result: Among a total study participant whose age ranges from 19 to 79 years with mean of 34 years, 71.9 %( 276/384) of them were females. The prevalence of renal impairment was 6.0 %( 23/384); of them, 14.1% (18/128) were found in hypothyroidism and 3.9 %( 5/128) were found in hyperthyroidism. Sever CKD (stage 3 and stage 4) was also found in 2.9% (11/384) of the participants. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 41.7 %( 160/384). It was 71.1 %( 91/128) in hypothyroidism, 41.4% (53/128) in hyperthyroidism and 11.7% (15/128) in euthyroidism. Lower HDL-C was the most affected components of dyslipidemia, 25.8% (99/384). Youth age (26-35 years) (AOR= 5.365, 95% CI: 1.126-25.568, P=0.035), being rural resident (AOR= 0.292, 95% CI: 0.097-0.879, P=0.029) and being a high school student (AOR= 20.992, 95% CI: 3.372- 130.703, P=0.001), and being single (AOR=0.138, 95% CI=0.036-0.528, P=0.004), monthly income < 1,000.00ETB (AOR=0.110, 95% CI=0.020-0.603, P=0.011) and vegetable and fruits en_US
