dc.description.abstract Abstract Background: Health management information system (HMIS) is a cross-cutting attribute in the health system building blocks whereby health data are managed. In Ethiopia, the private health facilities were implemented HMIS since 2014. However, there is lack of evidence that shows the level of HMIS information utilization among health workers of private health facilities. So, this study aimed to determine HMIS information utilization status of health workers at private health facilities. Objective: This study aimed to determine the status of Health Management Information System (HMIS) Information utilization and factors associated among Health workers in private Hospitals of Amhara regional state, Ethiopia, 2020. Methods: Institution based cross-sectional study design supplemented with qualitative method was conducted among health workers working at private hospitals in Amhara region, Ethiopia from February 15 to May 30, 2020. A total of 407 health workers were participated (with 95.9% response rate), Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire and in-depth interview for quantitative and qualitative part respectively. The reliability measure were obtained by calculating the value of Cronbach’s alpha (? = 0.91). The data were entered using Epi-Info version 7 software and the analysis were done using SPSS software version 20. Descriptive statistics, bi-variable, and multi-variable logistic regression analyses were used to assess factors associated with HMIS information utilization among health workers. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) at 95% CI was used to describe the association between the factors and the outcome variable. Thematic content analysis method was used for qualitative data analysis. Results This study found that overall; only 24% of the health workers had health management information system (HMIS) information utilization at the private hospitals. About 81.6% of the health workers didn’t get supportive supervision supervision/mentorship, 65.8% of the health workers had never been formal HMIS training & 74.7 % of the health workers responded as they didn’t understood data collection tools are easily. HMIS training [AOR = 0.204, 95% CI: 0.099 0.421] and attitude towards HMIS information [AOR = 0.491, 95% CI: 0.299, 0.808] were found to be statistically significant variables associated with health management information system (HMIS) information utilization. Conclusion In conclusion health management information system information utilization was poor among health workers working at private hospitals. Attitude and training were factors associated with health management information system information utilization. Therefore, a comprehensive &intensive training and awareness creation or advocacy are highly recommended to improve health management information system information utilization among health workers at private hospitals.
