Abstract
Background: Evidence-based Practice is the application of the best scientific
evidence for clinical decision making in professional patient care. Most of the time,
Nursing care practice in Ethiopia is based on experience, tradition, intuition, common
sense, and untested theories. However, EBP among nurse professionals has not yet
been studied in Ethiopia.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the Evidence-Based Practice and its
associated factors among point-of-care Nurses working at the Teaching Specialized
Hospitals of Northwest Ethiopia, 2020.
Methods and materials: An institutional-based cross-sectional study design mixed
with quantitative and qualitative was conducted from February 30 to Apr 20 / 2020.
Simple random sampling was deployed to select 507 nurses. Data was collected
using a pretested, structured, and self-administered questionnaire and in-depth
interview guide. The data were entered into Epi data version 4.6.and exported to
SPSS version 20 for analysis. The binary logistic regression analysis method was
used to determine the factors associated with evidence-based practice. An AOR with
95% CI was used to measure the strength of association between the variables.
Variables with P-value less 0.05 at 95% Cl were considered as statistically
significant predictors of EBP.
Result: A total of 530 questionnaires were distributed & 507 questionnaires
completed with a response rate of 95.7%. From the total, 239

attitude, having admin support for EBP, and the use of preferred available
information sources. Incorporating EBP in each educational curriculum, improving
the infrastructure of the working area, offering admin support more on EBP, &
accessing evidence & search techniques training could improve EBP.
