Abstract
Background
Spinal anesthesia has been used since the 1800s. In the 1950s, it was the most widely
used method of anesthesia and analgesia in obstetrics. Hypotension and the high
incidence of postural puncture headaches, nausea and vomiting were reasons for the
decline in the popularity of spinal anesthesia. Spinal anesthesia is the most popular and
preferred techniques by most anesthetist. Patient satisfaction is the most important
thing for measure of quality health care and services. Measuring factor that influence
patient satisfaction is paramount for monitoring the quality of health care service in
anesthesia.
Objective
To asses maternal satisfaction after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery at
University of Gondar referral hospital North West Ethiopia, from March 29to June20,
2017.
Method
Hospital based cross-sectional study of 380 sample wasconducted at university of
Gondar hospital. A questionnaire was given to the patients by trained data collector to
score their satisfaction on a four-point visual analogue scale regarding pain during
surgery, Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV), and postoperative backache
which relates us score 1 and 2 is grouped as satisfied and score 3 & 4 as dissatisfied
and also supplementary question wasasked and score 5 & above is satisfied, below 5 is
dissatisfied. Theaverage of all those individual area scores was takenas (PSS).Finally
the data wasanalyzed by SPSSsoftwareversion 20 with frequency distribution table.
Result
Total of 380 patient were analyzed and would got satisfied with intraoperative pain
management of 96%,PONV management (87%),postoperative back pain (92.9%),
opted for spinal anesthesia for the future for the procedure (56.8%), doing in lumbar
puncture(77.6%) were satisfied. With an overall satisfaction rate of (92.16%)
