Abstract:
Abstract
Background: Postoperative hyperglycemia is associated with morbidity and mortality in nondiabetic surgical patients. However, there is limited information on the extent and factors
associated with postoperative hyperglycemia. This study aimed to determine the prevalenc and
identify factors associated with postoperative hyperglycemia in non-diabetic surgical patients.
Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted between April 14 and June
30, 2022, at University of Gondar comprehensive specialized hospital Northwest Ethiopia.
Non-diabetic surgical patients who met the inclusion criteria were included and total sample
size were 412. A semistructured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Postoperative
hyperglycemia was considered when the blood glucose level was ? 140 mg/dl. Multivariable
logistic regression was performed to identify the association between postoperative
hyperglycemia and independent variables. Variables with a p-value less than 0.05 with a 95%
CI were considered statistically significant
