dc.description.abstract Acokanthera Schimperi is a tree - like plant belongs to genus Acokanthera and family of Apocynacea. The family of Apocynacea includes a large group of medicinally valuable plants. A. Schimperi root has been used for the preparation of poison in east Africa. The poison from this plant is also used for hunting wild animals. The root of the plant contains large amount of cardiac glycoside and which are responsible for the activities as arrow poison and act as cardiac stimulant. A. Schimperi root also used traditionally for the treatment of headache, swelling, snake bite, anti-viral, anti-malarial and anti-inflammatory. It has been a remedy for parasitic infestation of the intestinal tract, such as tapeworm and roundworm. Phytochemical usually exert unusual, unique and specific active physiological effects responsible for their therapeutic and pharmacological functions The objective of the study is to identify the root of A. Schimperi antibacterial activity and phytochemical investigation. The root of the A. Schimperi plant was collected each month from March to April 2012 E.C. Collected root was put for drying at shaded place and reduce to fine powder. Three different solvent such as n-hexane, chloroform and methanol ware used for extract every 24hr three times. The methanol extract shows a good antibacterial effect and pure compound is isolated and identified in column chromatography en_US
